CASA, together with the Performance Art Museum, presents Música Rebelde, Central America’s Popular Movement Music, an analog mixed media listening series of the music and art of Central America’s 1970s-90 revolutions. The listening sessions will highlight selected vinyl and tape albums from various social conscious music groups of Nicaragua and El Salvador.
This movement included several organized groups of professional and amateur musicians, many exiled and persecuted. Their courageous music amplified the voice of the oppressed, gave strength to fight against imperialism, and acted as a call for international solidarity; delivering powerful messages that still resonate in today’s popular struggle.
Join us for a special program of two listening sessions with live performances in a recreated living room experience – Oct 9th (Nicaragua) and Oct 16th (El Salvador), from 12–2 pm at the Performance Art Museum.
CASA welcomes you to enter the living room of the people’s sounds.
Hosts for Música Rebelde include Roxana K. Landaverde, Edison Calderon, Christian Morales, Alma L. Ruiz-Furlan, and Cynthia Gonzalez – Salvies Who Lunch.
